Everybody's talking about Mozambique, Africa's hot new place to hit the beach. Its pristine, tropical beaches span over 2000km of coastline, lapped by warm turquoise Indian Ocean waters. The snorkelling and diving here are some of the best in the world and as a destination relatively new to the scene, its luxurious lodges take a progressive approach to sustainable tourism. Maldives beware, Mozambique has arrived.
 

Bazaruto Archipelago
Easily reached from South Africa, the jaw-droppingly beautiful islands of Bazaruto and Benguerra in southern Mozambique are that perfect beach paradise of your imagination. Silver sand, towering sand dunes, azure waters, and by night, starry skies to make you go all dreamy-eyed. Snorkelling and diving are world-class and manta rays and reef sharks are common sightings. You may be lucky and catch sight of the very rare Dugong in these beautiful waters, too.
The Quirimbas
To the north within an easy flight from Tanzania, 27 islands make up the archipelago of the Quirimbas, Mozambique’s most recent addition to the tourist scene. Yet more pristine beaches and turquoise water, but also historic fortified towns, a fascinating cultural mix and wonderfully friendly people.
Lake Niassa (Lake Malawi)
Lake Malawi’s southeastern shores are in Mozambique and here it is known as Lake Niassa, home to some lovely beaches with crystalline waters and excellent snorkelling. This is also great hiking territory through the forests behind the lake or take a safari through the Manda Wilderness Reserve.
